Who We Are

We are a people who seek to know God intimately, grow in Christ, serve one another and sow the gospel into the lives of others.

Hope in the City is an authentic church with a simple purpose: to glorify God by growing devoted followers of Christ in communities that advance His kingdom in Austin and the nations. We seek to engage in dynamic corporate worship, to disciple people in life-giving Hope Communities, and to initiate church planting movements amongst unreached people groups.

For a greater understanding on what Hope in the City is all about, join us for our Discover Hope class. Information on upcoming Discover Hope Classes is available at Hope Connect on Sunday mornings or on our online events page.

Our Basic Structure for Ministry

Everything we do at Hope in the City focuses on our discipleship process. Devoted followers of Christ at Hope in the City KNOW God intimately, GROW in Christ, SERVE one another and SOW the gospel into the lives of others.

Know KNOW God Intimately
Without a foundation of intimacy with God, none of us can truly experience the life-transformation that only Jesus brings. We grow in our relationship with God by spending time with Him in prayer, by reading and obeying His Word, and by seeking Him together as a church body. We engage in dynamic corporate worship by gathering for worship, teaching and ministry to one another.
Grow GROW in Christ
Nobody lives in a vacuum. We grow when we have opportunity to put into practice the things we learn through God’s Word. At Hope in the City, we grow in Christ together through Hope Communities. They are smaller gatherings where you can know others and be known. In Hope Communities, real people encounter God’s Word together and share real life together. We all want a place to be known and have an impact; come grow in Christ through Hope Communities!
Serve SERVE the Body
Our spiritual walk will stagnate if we do not find an outlet to serve. There are many opportunities for service at Hope in the City. Examples include: serving during Sunday Morning Worship, teaching an equipping class, serving in one of the student ministries or children’s programs, leading a Hope Community, etc.
Sow SOW the Gospel
Jesus commanded us to make disciples, and we take this call seriously. We strive to demonstrate love to the lost and hurting world around us and to share the good news of Jesus with them. At Hope in the City, everyone is asked the question, “How can I reach others in my location and vocation?” Additionally, we have locally focused outreach teams called GoAustin Teams, and we send field staff to the nations through the sending arm of our church, Hope for the Nations.

What We Believe

We believe in the One True God who, in love, has revealed Himself to us in Three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In the Person of His Son, Jesus Christ, He entered the world as a baby, fully human, yet fully God. He lived a sinless life, then offered Himself on the cross so that we might be redeemed and through the sacrifice of His blood, experience a new and spiritual birth.

After His death He was buried, and on the third day rose again and ascended to Heaven, where He is seated at the right hand of God. He then poured out His spirit, giving birth to the church and empowering it to be His witness, and equipping His people with spiritual gifts to do the work of the Kingdom of God.

We believe the Son will soon return to claim His Bride, the One True and Universal Church, and take Her to Heaven where we shall live and reign with Christ forever.

We believe that we must respond to this great love that God has lavished on mankind by repenting of our sins, placing our faith fully in Jesus Christ, and submitting to His authority in our lives to be saved. Those who refuse this great love are in danger of eternal judgment in a literal hell. Through this living and vital relationship with Him, we are continually being changed more and more into the image of Christ. We believe our purpose is not only to know Him, but to live to make Him known throughout the earth.

We embrace these important truths based on God’s Word, the Bible, which is our authority and guide for faith and living.
