The City is an online tool that helps you connect with others and to the mission of Hope In The City. It’s designed around the many groups that make up our church: Hope Communities, Ministry Teams, Service Groups, etc. The City is a very helpful tool as we strive together to love God, love one another, and love Austin and the Nations.

Is The City private?
Yes, it is! The only people who can see your City account are other people from HITC who also use The City. No one can search your name and find your City account. On top of that, you have complete control over who can and cannot see your contact information. Click here and here to learn how to adjust your privacy settings. No one will ever sell the information you share via The City. The City is owned by a company named ACS Technologies which specializes in creating software solutions for local churches. HITC on The City is overseen by Hope In The City staff, and is configured only for our use. Pastors and staff members do not have unlimited access to the content posted on The City. No one does. The only people who can see content posted within a group are the people who are a part of the group. Any prayer requests or needs that you share within your Hope Group or other groups are only accessible to the members of that group, unless you specifically choose to share them with other friends and/or groups.
Is The City secure?
The City is a very secure web-based tool. It was originally created by a guy named Zack Hubert who worked for Amazon for eight years and helped them invent the online shopping cart. The City is now owned by ACS Technologies, a Seattle-based company that specializes in software solutions for the local church. HITC has a great long-term relationship with ACS Technologies and we are proud to use their software. Online donations are processed through Vanco Services, a reputable (and PCI Certified) payment service. Non-cash donations are processed by iDonate, a Dallas-based company leading the way in helping non-profit organizations' fundraising efforts.
What does The City do that other social networks can't?
Well, for one thing, you will never be able to download your annual giving statement from Facebook. That's just one example. While The City is primarily a communication tool, it is not only a communication tool. It also allows the people of Hope In The City to do things like meet other people from HITC who live in their neighborhood, find volunteer opportunities based on their skills, share prayer requests, and give online. Because The City is just for HITC, it allows us to do some powerful things that we simply could not do using other social networks.
How is The City different from other social networks, like Facebook?
Typically, interaction on social networks starts and stops online. You post a picture of your lunch, your friends like and comment on it, and that’s that. This is a common objection that people have to social media, because it creates a false sense of connection by trying to replace real life interaction with a post, comment, or like. The City, on the other hand, is specifically designed to facilitate community and mission amongst actual groups of people within the church who meet, work, and pray together in real life. Simply put, we do not depend on The City to create a sense of digital community and mission, rather, we use it as a digital tool to help facilitate the real life community and mission that we are already doing. What about people who do not have a computer?
If you do not have a computer (or if you are not interested in using one), you unfortunately will not be able to use The City. The most common concern that people are voicing when they ask this question is that they are worried that a City account would be too difficult to use and keep up with on a regular basis. If that’s you, here is some great news… you do not need to be a computer wiz to use The City! The only thing you need to use The City is an email address and access to a computer. That’s it. We will all use The City differently. We completely understand that. Actually, that is one of the things we like most about The City; it allows people to use their account to whatever extent they feel comfortable. For example, if you would like to use The City just so that you can receive emails from the groups you’re involved in (and nothing more) you can absolutely do that! The City is designed to help our church be a community on mission. We understand that not everyone will use The City to the same extent, and we want to do everything we can to help you use it in a way that suits your needs.
Can I use my smartphone instead of a computer?
Absolutely! Click here to learn more and download the app.
